In torrential rain accompanied by howling wind SARA launched their new lifeboat at Sharpness. Following the service of dedication, Dame Janet Trotter, Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire christened the boat, Norman & Amy Watkins, with the traditional bottle of champagne, ably assisted by John Gillo, Provincial Grand Master, Mark Master Masons.
The Bishop of Gloucester, Rachel Treweek, conducted the service of dedication with music provided by Frampton on Severn Silver Band. As all sang the hymn Eternal Father Strong to Save the rain came down in torrents!
Whilst invited guests enjoyed a wonderful buffet in the warmth of the boathouse, the crew launched the new lifeboat and demonstrated its worthiness in the rough waters of the Severn.
