As thousands of people congregated onto Gloucester Quays ready to watch the decisive England rugby game against
Australia in the very popular Fanzone, fire began to spread in the nearby historic warehouse.
It was early evening when the alarm was raised, sadly too late for the Fire Service to save the old maltster building at Bakers Quay. The warehouse had been derelict for many years, some saying an eyesore as it sat beside the modern complex of Gloucester Quays.
Two nineteen year olds from Gloucester were later arrested on suspicion of arson.
