Almost nothing existed at Stourport until James Brindley built the Staffs & Worcester Canal in 1771. After the decline of the narrow canal system in England in which the majority of canals fell in to disrepair, the Staffs & Worcester is now as busy as ever. A great tourist attraction during the summer for boaters and fishermen alike.
Rather unkindly Stourport has been given the name of the Birmingham Seaside, with its funfair on the banks of the Severn this is an attraction for the day tripper from the Midlands.
